Homag awarded patent for laser technology

Homag Holzbearbeitungssysteme AG has welcomed the German Patent and Trade Mark Office decision to grant its patent application DE 10 2006 056 010 for laserTec, the revolutionary laser technology for application of edges onto panels.
The patent is due to be published shortly and will apply initially to Germany, although applications are already in place for several other countries.
The innovative process unveiled to the international trade public at the Ligna 2009 entails melting the surface of the edging material to be banded by means of a laser beam before pressing it directly onto the workpiece. This process produces edges to a previously unattainable standard of quality with practically no visible join.
Since the Ligna, Homag has already sold several machines and plants featuring laserTec – most recently at the successful in-house exhibition, the Homag Convention. Research and Development Director Achim Gauß is confident “that the many benefits of laser technology will make this a sure winner – largely because end users will demand this new high standard of quality in the future once they are aware of its availability”.
