Seminar Japan-Malaysia free trade area - 4 September 2006 - Selangor

Malaysia and United States is currently working on a free trade agreement that would provide greater access to each others market. For companies that have prepared themselves for globalization and market liberalization since AFTA, this FTA with US would meant a huge market far richer than China and India combined. For others, the prospect of FTA with US could mean losing domestic advantage. For example, an FTA with Malaysia would give U.S. companies such as Microsoft Corp. and General Electric Co. greater access to Malaysia's US$131 billion economy. On the other hand, it would also provide Malaysian companies that are ready a US$11.7 TRILLION economy. Clearly the advantage can belong to Malaysian companies that are ready. Currently. Malaysia is the 10th-largest U.S. trading partner with about US$44 billion in trade between the two nations last year.
This seminar intends to highlight some features of the proposed US-Malaysia FTA, key interest Malaysia companies may have in US and vice versa. Tailored for the strategic planner, the CEO, or the marketing, this is yet another seminar to update participant on the latest on Asean Free Trade Area, all the new arrangement that are being propose and their implication and opportunities to Malaysian companies.
