VENICE DESIGN WEEK, TWELFTH EDITION 9-17 OCTOBER 2021. DESIGN X ALL

This year marks the twelfth edition of Venice Design Week (VDW), the festival dedicated to Design and innovation bringing ideas, projects and participants from all over the world to Venice historical center. This year all conferences will be presented in a dual streaming and face-to-face format, expanding horizons and allowing national and international public participation.

The opening ceremony of VDW2021 will be held on Saturday 9th October featuring “DESIGN X TUTTI”, or "DESIGN X ALL” referring to Inclusive Design for ALL which is the theme of the week. Said Lisa Balasso, VDW Founder and CEO: “Every year we encourage projects on a wide range of topics and that transcend barriers and themes because design at its best is all-inclusive. However, this year is a very special year for us and we want to put even more emphasis on inclusiveness hence the title DESIGN x ALL. The Inclusive Design theme will inspire each event of the week and we also added more special design categories for all age groups and abilities. “. Each accepted designer will have an exhibit space to showcase their prototypes or ideas in galleries, hotels, shops and spaces all around Venice. The concept takes in the city as well where in different places visitors will discover how artisans design the objects that surround us, improving them with creativity, ergonomics and technology. Over the last twelve years a route map has grown and been cultivated covering the whole cityscape and helping visitors explore myriad artisan workshops, concept stores, and every exhibition happening in Venice where the boundary between art and craftsmanship can often be hard to define. There are different paths for the jewellery addicted or light installations for the seekers of light.
VDW2021 is presented with the support of the Ministero dei Beni Culturali, the Veneto Region, the City of Venice and the Chamber of Commerce, is part of the network of both the Italian and World-wide design weeks. This year the all exhibitions take into account Covid precautions and can be visited while respecting the physical distance rules due to the special COVID-19 situation. To learn more about the historical aspects of Venice design, you can sign up for the guided tours around the town discovering traditional hidden workshop and futuristic projects presented also in augmented reality.
Venice Design Week under the theme of "DESIGN X ALL" - DESIGN X TUTTI - will be a meeting destination and dialogue on how design can be the basis for planning a better life, without barriers, and to discover projects behind objects we use every day. Visiting Venice in October is fantastic opportunity because you can enjoy Venice Design Week, in Art Galleries, Hotel Halls, Museums and the Architectural Biennale at the same time and in a season that is not too hot allowing leisurely walks which are the best way to take in the beauty of the city.
