Last week the members of the Euparal Association have voted Mr Bjarne Pedersen (Timberman Denmark A/S) as their new Chairman. He will succeed Mr Harri Siukonen (Triofloor OY) who acted as Chairman for several years. Miss Noemí Viedma Ponce (Otto Parquet S.L.) stays on as Treasurer and Mr Jos Krijnen as Secretary.
Mr Bjarne Pedersen was elected as Chairman unanimously by the participants during the last Euparal-meeting in Hannover on January 16th. During the meeting several topics were discussed. Euparal is impressed by the high standards and the quality of the products which were presented by the exhibitors at Domotex 2007. As a result marketing will become a key succesfactor in the trade. However Euparal warns that the possible price increases in wooden but also laminate flooring will have a negative impact and puts the trade under pressure. Suppliers should therefore be very careful and open in their intentions regarding the pricing of their goods.
Chinese manufacturers are improving but Euparal still questions the tax policies and certain suppliers which cannot fulfill their quality promises. Euparal expects furthermore a ‘dry up’ of solid flooring from China.
In 1989 a group of four parquet importers and distributors founded the international organization Euparal. Trading in a ‘new’ European market with open boundaries they foresaw the need for exchanging information and assisting each other in coping with the changed market circumstances. Nowadays Euparal not only aims at the European market but has broadened its focus to all markets worldwide. The aims of the association are to promote parquet in general and to exchange product, market and technical information in the broadest sense. The members also give each other mutual assistance in case of for example stock shortages and unusual requests or situations.
For almost eighteen years now Euparal is an association in the spectrum of parquet and wooden flooring organizations. The name Euparal was chosen as an abbreviation of European Parquet Alliance. Membership consists of one distributor per country in order to prevent conflicting national interests. At this moment Euparal consists of fourteen parquet importers and distributors who represent fourteen different countries.: Canada, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Slovenija, Spain.
The next Euparal meeting will be in Stavern (Norway) July 6th.
