IWF 2008 Challengers Award Winners

The 2008 Challengers Award Winners were announced at a special award ceremony held August 20th, 2008 on the opening day of IWF 2008. Over ninety exhibitors entered a record 125 products to compete for the coveted Challengers Award. The award is known throughout the world as the woodworking industry’s highest honor, recognizing advancements in technology or significant contributions to environmental improvement: and focuses on companies that have distinguished themselves by developing innovative technology in products, services, or manufacturing techniques. The award challenges IWF exhibiting companies to develop revolutionary, creative, ingenious, forward-thinking technology, materials, services or safety devices that advance the industry.
“Although only seven products can win the award, everyone is a winner, the 93 companies that entered, the seven that won and most importantly the industry as a whole,” said Charles R. (Tommy) Tomkins, IWF 2008 Chairman and President of Cresent Fine Furniture Company, based in Gallatin, Tennessee. “The IWF exhibitors who won the Challengers Award® will receive worldwide media coverage and be recognized throughout the industry as leaders of innovation, “added Tomkins.
“It’s a great vehicle to show your company’s commitment to the industry by developing new products that will benefit the industry. We wanted to give back to the industry and by investing in new product development, we have a product that will benefit the industry,” commented Claus Staalner President of WoodEye North America Inc. “This was our first IWF. The Challengers Award® is one of the few awards to focus on both new technologies and the environmental benefits of those technologies. DUX products are a great fit on both fronts. Winning the award really raised the product and company above the “noise” from the thousands of new products launches each year,” added Matt Carlson Vice President of Marketing of DUX Area Inc.
