CONFOR welcomes Welsh Government re-shuffle.

Since the Welsh Assembly elections in the spring of 2011, Confor has been lobbying hard for forestry to come under one minister.
On 14 March 2013, First Minister Carwyn Jones shuffled his cabinet and has rationalised the ridiculous situation where forestry policy came under Environment and Sustainable Development and forestry support under Agriculture and European Funding.
In the new cabinet, Alun Davies has been given a full ministerial portfolio, which includes forestry policy. He retains European Funding. Alun now has full responsibility for forestry. Confor’s Kath McNulty and Andrew Bronwin met with Alun a few months ago. Kath has written to him asking for an early meeting to discuss future direction of travel for forestry. This is particularly important as Natural Resources Wales will be launched on 02 April 2013 and Kath is part of a small team drawing up a proposal for forestry under the next RDP.
Edwina Hart, Minister for Enterprise and Science, adds transport to her portfolio in recognition of the importance of transport for the sustainable development of Wales.
John Griffiths, formerly minister for Environment and Sustainable Development moves to the Department for Culture and Sport.
