High performance coatings on plastics
materials continue to pose major challenges
for the coatings industry and for coatings
users alike. For one thing, demands on the
coatings performance are increasing – e.g.
on adhesion to the substrate, on scratch and
mar resistance, on outdoor weathering
performance, or on the variety of colour
effects and the coatings’ appearance. Also,
plastics substrates themselves are
developing at rapid pace, and each new
industrially relevant substrate material
requires adaptions – in coatings
formulations as well as pretreatment and
application processes.
However, a number of novel technical
solutions are being put forward today,
concerning both coating materials and
process innovations. Thus, improved
waterborne and UV-curing coating systems
offer low- VOC alternatives to
high-performance solventborne systems,
economically viable alternatives to corona
and flame pre-treatment are heavily
discussed, and intelligent process solutions
offer more efficient ways to coat complex
shapes of plastic parts. In addition,
“smart” coatings for plastics can offer a
variety of innovative surface
functionalities, ranging from surface
conductivity to extreme scratch resistance
to novel soft-feel effects.
All this sets the scene for the second
instalment of the European Coatings
Conference “Modern Coatings for Plastics
Substrates”. After its highly successful
premiére in 2003, Vincentz Network in
collaboration with the German Research
Association for Surface Treatment (DFO) have
again set up a programme that will bring you
up-to date with important developments in
the field, covering the entire process chain
in the coating of plastics. On a high
technical level, 14 invited international
speakers, from leading companies and
research institutes will present their
recent research results, addressing chemical
and physical pre-treatment issues, novel raw
materials for high performing UV curing and
waterborne coatings, as well as innovative
application technology.
The conference is divided into the
following five sessions::
The conference again provides a unique
opportunity to meet and network with a
community of renowned international experts
in the field, representing the entire
coatings for plastics process chain,
discussing automotive coatings as well as a
variety of other industrial applications,
coming from Europe and beyond. Do not miss
the chance to take part in this event and
learn about timely solutions to the
technical problems you are facing in the
coating of plastics.
